Criterion number one when choosing a good Nerf blaster for Nerf War is to choose a blaster you love. If you choose your favorite blaster, you're already comfortable with the quirks of how it operates. You can quickly reload it, probably without even looking. And you can clear any jam or malfunction without a second guess. This is why you should choose a blaster you are very familiar with for a Nerf War, and that's why I chose to go with the Alpha Trooper for my first pick.
Criterion number two, use a blaster that you can easily modify to become a legendary Nerf blaster. And the Modulus Recon, just like the Retaliator before it, is a perfect canvas for all your Nerf War mods. A pump grip, an extended stock, a stronger spring, maybe slam-fire, and you're good to go.
Criterion three, start with a blaster with legendary status already. If you don't think you can pull off all the mods necessary to make the Recon a legendary Nerf warring blaster, start with a blaster that's already legendary. You can take a Longshot and buy a couple of aftermarket mod kits, including a breech kit, a pump grip, spring replacement and more. Then you'll have a super powerful, insanely accurate, Nerf War legend of a blaster. Easy.
Four, something that you can actively load while engaged in battle. During a Nerf War, lots of people like to use these pump action open cylinder type blasters that they can constantly reload by shoving darts into the front. I understood the practicality of using such a blaster, but I was never a fan. Enter the Nerf Infinus, a full auto Nerf blaster with "Speed-Load Technology." It's like a Rapidstrike or HyperFire but you can constantly feed darts into a loading port behind the rear sight of the blaster and top off your mag. Neat.
Five, a Nerf gun with a HUGE ammo reserve. If you don't want to bother constantly loading darts like with the Nerf Infinus, maybe you should take a look at the Nerf Rival Nemesis blaster. The Nemesis has a huge tank on top where you can load 100 Rival rounds! As if that wasn't enough, with a few aftermarket mod kits, you can easily double the ammo capacity of this beastly blaster. Outstanding!
Maybe you don't want to worry about anything. You don't want to be constantly topping off your blaster, or having to carry an overly large blaster with 100+ rounds, maybe you don't even want to have to go through the trouble of modding anything. If you just want to grab a literal powerhouse of a blaster and shoot with supreme confidence and accuracy, grab this blaster. Although, you may want to check with your local Nerf group to see if this thing is allowed. It hits HARD.
